Run Your Business Through the 3Cs

Kameela Hall  /  August 22, 2026

Contemplate. Convert. Complement.

There is no shortage of things a business could be doing.

A new platform. A new hire. A new service. A better process. AI. Automation. A different marketing strategy. Another idea someone saw working for another company.

The question is not always whether the idea is good. The question is whether it makes sense for your business right now.

Before adding something new, I like to think about it through three lenses:

Contemplate

Convert

Complement

Contemplate

Start with the idea before the implementation.

Why are we considering this?

What problem are we actually trying to solve?

What happens if we do nothing?

It is easy to identify a solution before fully understanding the problem. A business realizes communication is inconsistent, so it buys a project management platform. Revenue slows, so it hires someone for sales. The team is overwhelmed, so leadership decides they need another employee.

Any of those decisions could be right. They could also be expensive responses to a problem that has not been properly diagnosed.

Contemplation is not about delaying decisions. It is about understanding what deserves action.

Convert

An idea does not become useful because everyone agrees it is a good idea.

Someone has to turn it into action.

If you decide to implement a new system, who owns it? What needs to migrate? Who needs access? What changes about the current workflow? What does success look like three months from now?

This is where a lot of good ideas quietly die.

They were discussed. They were approved. Maybe they were even purchased.

But they were never converted into responsibilities, processes, deadlines, or measurable changes.

Conversion is the difference between deciding to improve something and actually improving it.

Complement

Then ask whether the change works with the business you already have.

A new tool should complement your technology stack.

A new hire should complement the capabilities of the team.

A new process should complement the way work needs to move.

A new service should complement the direction of the business.

Not everything has to fit perfectly into what already exists. Growth naturally requires change. But constantly layering new things onto the business without considering how they interact creates complexity very quickly.

Sometimes the best decision is to add.

Sometimes it is to replace.

Sometimes it is to remove something first.

And sometimes, after contemplating the idea, there is nothing worth converting at all.

Before your next addition, run it through the 3 Cs.

Contemplate what you are actually trying to solve.

Convert the decision into something executable.

Complement the business you are building, not just the idea you have today.
